Mileage: 102.5
Average: 13.7
Time: 6 hrs 50 minutes
Weather: HOT and humid. 90s. Started out at 72 in the morning from our campground in Suffolk. Less windy, but still a headwind.
Started out very early this morning; 6:15. Had a light breakfast once again. Headed out again on the road we've been traveling on for the past couple days: good ol' Rt. 13.
The roads today did not have as nice shoulders. It was also a little more rolling, rather than flat. But nothing even like back home!
Kept saying, "Oh look, an actual hill!"
We rode for about 30 miles, then started looking for our second breakfast. The town of Winton did not have anything, so we high-tailed it to the next town: Ahoskie. Had some trouble finding something there too. We were all fixed on having some good home-cookin'! Eventually found a family restaurant in Ahoskie. By then we had ridden 46 miles, and it was 10am.
At 58 and a half by noon, (our goal is to someday get 60 by noon) Mother Hen caught up to the sweaty pack at a gas station and loaded them up with cold water and Gatorade. Stopped 12 miles later for lunch at a nice pavilion of a church.
Well, we sidetracked off our friend Rt. 13 to get to our campground: Twin Lakes in Chocowinity in NC. You've served us well good ol' road!
Quote of the day: "We are too much alike!" ~Grandma Rose, talking to Ladina who responded with, "I'll take that as a complement!"
Got to the campground around 5:40, but we still hit the pool! It felt very refreshing. In fact, it is still 80 degrees here at 10:00.
Heard back home there is lots of rain. Wishing for some of that! :)
Bought some chicken for dinner!
30 road kill today. Now the bikers have a question for all our blog readers. What is the most identifiable road kill victim in NC and VA? Take a guess. Will reveal in a day or two.
I'm going to guess possum. Get a little farther south, and I am confident it will change to armadillo. Is there a prize for the correct guess?
ReplyDeletePossum was my guess too, but since it was already guessed, I am going to say giraffes. I think that is a reasonable second guess.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on crossing into North Carolina! It is neat seeing all your pictures. The pools look like fun. Keep up the great work! :)
ReplyDeleteTara, for the Wise Family
Awesome info and pics guys. My guess is going to be raccoons.
ReplyDeleteskunks? very identifiable no matter what it looks like, dead or alive! :)
ReplyDeletePOSSUMS...without a doubt!!!
ReplyDeleteHaven't read in a couple of days, but glad to hear you're doing well. Your comment about our rain is interesting.....it's all a matter of perspective....I've actually been praying that you have NOT had rain, since it would be next to impossible to ride in any of these downpours we've had! Maybe a nice light shower to cool things off a bit!
ReplyDeleteChuckling at Papa Dave's "biker tan"---I can honestly say I've never seen one quite like that before!!!!!
