Incidents on Day 2

Stats:
Distance: 92 miles
Average: 15 mph
Time: 6hrs
Wind: gentle tailwind, approx 10-12 mph

The crew left Newark, Delaware at 6:20 AM. The motel had a nice breakfast laid out. The bikers ate more than expected there. But were hungry again soon enough.

Within the first 5 miles after leaving Newark, we had some excitement.
A bolt from David's pedal came off 5 minutes in. Thankfully Darrell had a wire tie along.
We spotted 22 more road kill today. A significant one was spotted while still in Newark. A killed deer was on the sidewalk! You don't often see a deer (alive or dead) on the sidewalk in a city.
5 miles in, a car cut in front of Papa Dave at a stoplight, trying to make a right turn while Papa Dave was mounting his bike to continue straight through the intersection. Needless to say, they had a little run in, and Papa Dave went down. But at the slow speed of the intersection, he did not skid on the ground. Neither man nor machine were seriously injured. Thank you Lord for protection, and that little "wake up call", as Papa Dave put it, for riders and driver.
Fixing David's pedal

Things calmed down after that. We stopped for a wonderful 2nd breakfast at Smyrna Diner with 30 miles under our belts.

Crossed a bridge going over a canal.

While going down the other side of the bridge, dad unexpectedly went airborne over a place where the asphalt buckled. He says he landed it flawlessly. Lost his water bottle though. David picked it up.

Had a late lunch in the afternoon at a subway.

David's sunglasses also broke. Those pair we found on the road yesterday will come in handy!

Now it's flat for miles. Will be the whole way down.

Ladina, Grandma Rose, Jenna and Ellie left in the RV at 12:45 that afternoon to meet the riders at the campground in Delmar, Maryland. They were aiming to leave at twelve, but because of another incident, their ETD was delayed. One of the keys needed to lock up a storage compartment was broken.

A final incident occurred with a flat tire 3 miles away from the riders' destination. Emily ran over some sort of staple. Papa Dave has had his share of flat tires, and had the tools to fix it.

We rode on route 13 south the whole way down through Delaware.

Grandma Rose prepared a delicious supper at the campground of BBQ meatballs, rice, and salad. Camground atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing here.

Each of the four children will take a turn cleaning up supper. Ellie went first tonight.

Quote of the day: "This is the best campground ice ever been to. It's only the second campground I've ever been to, but it's the best." ~Ellie

Although we had many unexpected situations today, we remained safe. This day will give us many memories. The excitement sure broke up the monotony of constant pedaling!

Without a doubt, we will all be going to bed early tonight!
