June 18 ~ Day 13 ~ "Lazy Day"

Stats:
Mileage: 61.5
Average: 13
Time: 4 hours 45 minutes
Weather: not much wind, either direction. Mid 80s.

The Exceptional Eight (everyone except Grandma Rose and Ellie) left our Kampground around 6:40 this morning.
The little cabin Doug, Rochelle, Darrell, and Ladina slept in.

Eating breakfast and packing up

The Exceptional Eight

Yay for palm trees!

We had fog again this morning, but it was much less dense, and didn't make our arms sparkly this time.

When we were focusing on smashed glass on the side of he road, a minivan surprised us by passing on a double yellow line, squeezing between the car he was passing and the bikers. Unwise minivan.

Saw a live snake slithering across the road. Hope that one gets smashed. It was maybe a foot and a half long. Most of the 14 road kill spotted today were snakes, and many were longer than that one! Today reminded us of 25 years ago, when Grandma Rose ran over a dead snake. What a sight she made, legs flying  up out of the pedals and shrieking. Good memories, good memories. No one did that today. Poor Grandma Rose, keeps getting reminded of that story.

Rode a nice steady 19 miles on smooth roads and ate at Melrose Cafe. We hit a home run! Ate outside on the porch. It was a very nice morning, weather wise.

After breakfast, we dropped Ladina and Jenna, and became the Spectacular Six. Our adventures consisted of being chased by cows, sprinting through construction traffic, and riding 41 more miles by 1:00 PM.

Spectacular Six

This herd of cows was in a field. The pine trees were also in the field, and they ran through the pine trees as we passed. They couldn't keep up, though, because we were so speedy.

There was road work being done, and the bikers had to ride through a one lane zone on the road as they were paving the other side. We were going pretty fast, at 17-18 mph, the whole way, trying not to hold up traffic. But the work zone ended up being over a mile long! At least that mile went by fast for us. Maybe not so much for the cars behind us...

By 1:00, we had arrived at our campsite, opting for a shorter day. The next two days will be our last two days of biking, riding 80-90 each day. Sarasota here we come!

The nice long afternoon was greatly enjoyed. Most of it was spent at the pool.  (No surprise there, huh?)

These rules are strictly enforced.
Funny, the last four rules were all broken.

Grandma Rose says this was the best pool so far. It was the coldest, so it was the most refreshing to her.

There was a brief thunderstorm this afternoon. Would have been welcome if we were riding!

Repositioning Mother Hen

These pictures are for Grandma Rishel. She will call us gypsies!

Supper was another favorite. Mac n cheese mixed with hit dogs, baked beans, and salad.

There are still pine trees down here!

We enjoyed our family time at dinner and our devotions so much, apparently, we didn't want to part.
Quote of the day: "I want to go to the bathroom but I don't want to miss anything!" ~ Grandma Rose.
Rochelle replied with, "Well, we could all go with you!"

Well, if anything happens now, at least we can still say we ride our bikes to Florida!
