Mileage: 95
Average: 13.1
Time: 7hrs
Weather: for sure got up to 91 degrees. Didn't feel as bad as yesterday, but still very humid. Still a bit of a headwind, but that was a blessing in disguise-cooled us down. An afternoon thunder shower also served to cool things down, but kept it humid.
Hit the road this morning at 6:35 AM. Our route this morning was lines with many tall pine trees, giving us blessed shade for a couple hours this morning. They were mostly smooth roads, but without shoulders. Drivers were courteous, and the time went quick.
Breakfast was at the North Carolina's smallest restaurant with 11 seats. Omelets. Starting to enjoy these southern accents!
Temperatures climbed as the miles clicked away. Lunch was in another church parking lot on Rt. 11 in Pink Hill, NC.
We are praying for Grandma Rose to survive two more weeks of this heat!
Decided to opt for the farther away campground, and set off after lunch for there: Lake Leamon in Wallace, NC.
The campground had a beautiful beach and a lake with clean clear water. Ellie, Jenna, and Emily even took a bath in it later in the evening.
Bathing in the lake. Much better than the small showers, that David had to peel two frogs out of for his shower.
Ellie stepped in a fire ant hill. Ouch. There will be more and more bugs as we head south.
We saw 34 road kill today. We saw 4 deer, 2 rabbits, and 2 turkeys.
Funny how we see more animals dead than alive. Which brings us to the answer you've alllllll been WAITING forrrr!!!! The most identifiable road kill victim has been turtles. Who knew!?
Quote of the day: "Don't I have a put in anything?" -Jenna
Our first day of only riding in one state.
Another good hot day. 6 days and about 450 miles down. About 800 miles to go.
Sarasota here we come!
