230 miles down so far on our trip!
Today was quite uneventful compared to yesterday! Started out from our camp in Delmar, MD at 6:20 AM, the same time as the previous day. We are making our way down the Delmarva peninsula. Tonight the crew stopped in Cheriton, VA. Tomorrow we will cross the Bay Bridge-Tunnel. That will be exciting!
Bikers had a light breakfast of cereal and long johns at the campground before leaving. Ellie woke up and Papa Dave told her to eat a long john; it would put her right back to sleep. She did!
When the riders started out, it was a bit cool, and there were many trees equalling much shade on the road. 59 degrees when we woke up. But that quickly warmed up to low 80s by the end of the day!
2nd breakfast was at Hardee's in Pocomoke, MD.
Stopped for a nice lunch in the grass alongside Rt. 13 around 12 PM. Took a 45 minute break. The wind started to pick up, so the fab 4 thought they better get going. At first the wind wouldn't make up its mind which way to go. It eventually turned into a 10-15 mph headwind that they fought for the final 20 or so miles.
David has decided to not care about his average speed from now on, as our major goal is distance. That will be hard for him!
The extent of our day's excitement was counting road kill. We counted 32 poor varmints, 6 of them being turtles. We also saw two live turtles. One of them was about to become number 33, because it was trying to cross Rt. 13. Faith Walls will be happy to know that only two out of the total 56 road kill we have seen have been recognize able as cats.
We also found some things along the side of the road. There were a lot of interesting things we didn't pick up as well. We spotted a couple gloves, a pair of pants, a cooler chest lid, and two nice baseball caps. We picked up a nice pair of scissors and a travel pillow.
When the camper passed the bikers after a rest stop, Emily snapped a pic. If you look closely, you might be able to see Ellie and Jenna waving out the back window.
Ellie and Jenna have been entertaining themselves by listening to an album of Adventures in Odyssey the whole time!
When we arrived at the campground it was about 4 PM. Ellie looked up at Papa Dave and said, "do you want to pedal some more? They have paddleboats!" Everyone got into their bathing suits (except Ladina, Grandma Rose, and Papa Dave) and took a dip in the pool. My, did it feel good. But it was a bit cool, because of the wonderful breezes coming in from the Chesapeake Bay. Our campsite was very close to the water!
Ladina got pulled into the water by Darrell. They forgot about her phone in her pocket! Emily suggests that now maybe ahe can get a smartphone, but the mother refuses.
Supper was sausage and potatoes, hits the spot! Strawberries and puppy chow for dessert were perfect.
This is probably one of a few campgrounds where we wish we could stay more than one night. So beautiful, and so many things to do!
Looks lovely! Too bad about Ladina's phone! Maybe Darrell needs to settle down!!!! :)
