Yoder's Restaurant

Yoder's was the reward for our training during the week of Sunday, May 18th
We had a lot of fun. And we were goofy too.
We met a man there who had worked on Ivan's tractor, that Papa Dave spent a lot of time riding with a couple weeks ago.

Memorial Day Weekend

So for Memorial Day weekend, our family decided to bike over the Appalachians because we're crazy like that. It was a lot of fun though! It was kind of like a test run for our big trip in June, because Grandma and Ladina drove the RV with Jenna and Ellie along, just like we'll do then. It helped us figure out things we will need, and better ways to do things. Plus it gave us practice and more miles!
On Friday night we camped west of Gettysburg. It was a lovely campground. Then on Saturday we started out about 8:00 and rode down through Maryland. We ended up near Hancock. Then we went a little further to tackle a challenging Sideling Hill - 4 miles long! All in all on Saturday, we rode about 70 miles. Papa Dave says that hilly 70 miles will be the same, if not harder than any 90 miles a day we would ride in June. Yay! We drove the rest of the way to the our destination Saturday evening instead of camping again and riding the rest of the way on Sunday because of a change of plans. It felt good to accomplish something like that though! The rest of the weekend was lovely, spent on the lake with family.

Old Mill

Old Mill was the rewarding restaurant for our training for the week of Sunday, May 11th.
Don't get confused.
Emily and David did not bike enough to bring Ellie and Jenna along.
But there are these nifty things called coupons, and when you buy an adult meal, you get a child meal free.
So we figured Ellie and Jenna could come along for free.
Mrs. Carol Good as our server was wonderful too!
Here is the picture!

May 31

David truly is a machine.
And Ellie loves him. (now she gets to go out to eat)
By Friday, May 30th, David had 72 miles for the week.
Thanks to a big ride with dad in the morning, and another ride in the evening, he accomplished 158 miles for the week. That's 86 miles in one day! WOW. Quite possibly the most he's ever ridden in one day. To think that we will all be doing that everyday come our trip...

Bike Names!

So we've come up with most of the names for our bikes. That's a good thing too, since we're leaving soon!
Papa Dave's bike is named Lead Dog
Darrell's bike is named Rattlesnake (on account that it rattles all the time)
Grandma's bike that she and mom are sharing is named Grey Fox
Uncle Doug's is Stinkbug
Aunt Rochelle's is Chameleon
Emily's bike is named Iron Horse
David's is Mountain Lion (very fitting)
Jenna's is Pink Panther
and Ellie's is Misty.
We names the RV too. It's our Mother Hen.

Pedal to the Metal

We love our new t-shirts from Lands End!
Thanks for buying them mom! :)
In this picture, we're getting "geared up" to go on our trip to the Youghiogheny lake for Memorial Day weekend.

BIG LANDMARK

On May 19th, David hit 1000!!!

JENNA ROSE
She is amazing! For the week of Sunday, May 18th, she rode 105 miles!
Since one of the incentives for David and Emily is $$$, (see Incentives post) Jenna asked for $5.00 if she would ride 100 miles in one week. The thing is, (smart girl) she asked Grandma Rose, Papa Dave, Ladina, and Emily. That girl just made 20 bucks. She earned it though!

Aunt Jennie's Reward

Wow did we get a lot of food!
Aunt Jennie's was the reward for Emily and David getting over 150 miles each for the week of Sunday, May 4th.
Grandma Rose, Emily, David, AND Jenna AND Ellie went out to Aunt Jennie's on Tuesday evening 5/13. Papa Dave is still riding with Johnabuilt!

A Little Inspiration Would Help

We're trying to come up with names for our bicycles! Just for fun. But we're having trouble thinking of good names. We've gone through a couple ideas but aren't crazy about any of them yet. And it would be nice to have some kind of theme uniform throughout for everyone's bikes. Ex: colors, animals, etc.

Riding Along

David and Uncle Doug got to ride along with Johnabuilt and Ivan! They went out and rode for the day with Papa Dave on Friday the 9th. They got to visit Flight 93 memorial. They had a lot of fun!  #aafwh #acrossamericaforwoundedheroes helpamericanheroes.com

Superman

Papa Dave is riding along with the Johnabuilt and Ivan as they cross America! He'll come back home after 2 weeks. Check out Across America For Wounded Heroes' blog at helpamericanheroes.com
He's been updating us by texting with his new iPhone! He's getting some great pictures! He's also getting a lot of miles, which means no money for Emily and David... but we're all glad he's having fun!

400

WOOOOOOOO Emily hit 400 recently!

Mileage Totals for Week of Sunday, April 27

Papa Dave - 172
Dad - 82
Emily - 102

Darrell

It was a little cold one morning when Darrell rode his bike to work. He grabbed a jacket, and then he looked like a hunting biker.

Katie's

As a reward for their hard work during the rainy week of Sunday the 27th, Emily and David went along with Grandma Rose to Katie's. No siblings got to go along. :(
But the CHEESEBURGER SOUP was delish!

Hershey Farms

The reward for the week of  April 20th was Hershey Farms! Jenna got to go along since David had over 150 miles. This was Emily's favorite place so far. Everyone enjoyed the buffet immensely!
Too stuffed to eat the whoopie pies they were selling. But they looked good!
It was a rainy day. Emily, David, and Jenna jumped over a puddle. Good photography skills, Grandma Rose!
